I chose to evaluate Crayola's webpage. They added graphics to their page to add visual appeal however, that makes the webpage overwhelming and hard to obtain information easily. it doesn't follow most of the basic rules of graphics. Some of the rules it doesn't follow are the fact that the characters could be seen as obnoxious in a few years. More examples are the conveying a message through the images. Lastly, they use too many images to show their products and not enough textual information. Also, another reason I also picked this page was to show a "kid's" page. I was interested to see if the reason they added more photos was to help children understand better and have more fun.
I chose to evaluate CNN's webpage because it shows a good example of following graphic guidelines. Which will show exactly what Crayola did wrong with graphics in their website. A rule that CNN correctly followed was them organizing their page to have a good amount of images that doesn't take away from the information. Another thing they did was not making the images convey textual information. They put it so it was underneath which is a good place to catch peoples attention and to not get it mixed up with other information for other news alerts. Lastly, they made sure to make the text a thick and black so you can clearly see the information without it blending into the background.
